Despite its humble simplicity, it is highly flexible and resilient, and able to respond to the wide variety of toilets and bathroom drains in use. When a toilet is flushed, water flows to the bowl where it is discharged through rim jets surrounding the upper inside of the rim and with most new toilets, also through a siphon jet. All the jets are connected and help to flush the toilet through the trap.
Conventional cup toilet plunger tips which fit over the drain allow pressure to escape backward through the siphon jet and out the rim jets. The clog usually situated in the trap is minimally affected because pressure cannot be maintained as water seeks the path of least resistance.
The Universal Toilet Tip fits deep into the drain, beyond the siphon jet. This isolates the trap. With the trap completely isolated, pressure can be applied, moving the clog and breaking it up. The clog then passes over the weir, down through the outlet and into the sewer.
Traditional bathroom toilet plungers can’t build significant pressure because they form their seal around the drain. This is a poor location as it enlarges the size required and that means that more force is needed to maintain the seal. If the toilet is siphon jetted, things can become impossible. In this instance, water pressure is free to move back and forth through this small port instead of toward the obstruction, which offers more resistance. Moving the seal to a location inside rather than around the drain reduces its size and the force required to do the job.
